How can you call this "The Truckers Convoy" when 90% of truckers are vaccinated and do not support this convoy? And when the Canadian Trucking Alliance also condemns this so called "Freedom Convoy"? Common sense seems to be lacking here Rejean... really ...
First, thanks for being the first to comment posts. I'm so happy to see people reading my content.
Some industry groups have claimed that they think truckers are vaccinated as the same rate as the general population however that has not been proven. Regardless, just because someone is vaccinated, does not mean they support forced vaccination or employment based vaccination. I know many fully-vaccinated people who fully support this convoy.
I would recommend you attend a protest in your own town that is supporting the Canada-wide protests. I have been on the side of the trans Canada highway three weekends in a row with people waving Freedom signs and holding Canadian flags. Over 90% of truckers passing by honk loudly in support. I agree that not all truckers support the movement, but my own eyes tell me it's much more than the majority.
Lastly, the Canadian Trucking Alliance is lobby group that represents the owners of 4500 trucking companies in Canada (and not the truckers themselves). It's important to note that there are over 100,000 trucking firms in Canada so the CTA definitely does not speak for the vast majority of trucking firms or any driver for that matter.
Did you tell your fellow "Anti-Trudeau Freedom Protesters" that you retired early but are still taking advantage of Canada's generous child benefits (and getting $$$ thanks to it)? Wondering how that would go and if they would still see you as a Great Canadian "Patriot" ... lol
If you read this book you will see that people with lower incomes can benefit greatly from the CCB in Canada if they have children. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for me, I have not been able to take too much advantage of this program as my partner and I have been too successful making passive income in the last few years.
I will state though that I do find the program much too generous as a whole and would likely vote for a candidate who would propose to downsize it substantially. It's important to note that Canadians don't have a choice in receiving the CCB. Unlike traditional social assistance programs, when you file your taxes, it becomes an automatic payment that I have not found a way to opt out of.
But anyhow, I do not quite understand how any of this would make me less Canadian, but respect your comment. I hope you will continue reading and comment in the future.
Except your plan was never to "opt out" of this child benefit, the opposite actually. You took it into account when making your "Retire Early" calculations. I am not the one saying it but a certain Rejean Venne in his book! Maybe you need to re-read it? and sadly, you can't say it is Fake News!
So I do not quite understand why you are saying "that I have not found a way to opt out of" since this was never your intention!
I did not say it makes you less Canadian. I said that your fellow "Anti Trudeau, Pro Trump Freedom Protesters" might definitely think it does. But I am sure you will not tell them anything about it eh... just a hunch ... =)
There is a difference between accepting something and agreeing with it. I hope you can realize that, as I trust the intellectual ability of my general followers to.
I’ve made myself very clear many times to anyone who asks that I don’t agree with the CCB program. I don’t agree with our general fiscal policy in this country which is causing each one of my children to inherit nearly $50,000 of government debt each before they reach adulthood.
If you read 5 years to freedom, I make it very clear that I did not rely on the CCB for my retirement. You have made a false claim and a lie. Please re read the book. I simply provided the readers with the details of the program. Like I said earlier I’ve still not received a significant amount from this program yet.
I would vote to abolish the ccb if it meant a better fiscal policy. I’ve always been a fiscal conservative. But while it’s there and I don’t have a choice but to receive it in my bank account, your damn right I’ll accept it. If my portion of the government debt balloons every year, I’ll make sure to put some of the ccb away to pay it back one day.
So yeah I will tell anyone who asks and I have nothing to hide. Read 5 Years to Freedom. It’s a great book. Still 4.5+ star rated on amazon!
I find it very funny how you equate Anti-Trudeau = Pro-Trump = Freedom Loving
Like they are all terrible things and all mean the same thing. Lol…
I mean I don’t like Trudeau’s policy. I was never a fan of Trump. But freedom… why is that such a taboo word in your opinion?
I will touch on that subject in my podcast this week. I think i might even use your quote. Thanks.
I do not believe I made a false claim or a lie. My recollection of your book is that you took the CCB program into account to make your "Retire Early" calculations. Sure I can place a hold on the book again at the Public Library.
But I highly HIGHLY doubt that you mentioned in your book that you were against this policy and you would refuse to get it if you could. Did you??
But again, I will place a hold on your book and we shall see. After all it is free and this is what my local taxes are paid for =)
As for the Anti-Trudeau and Pro-Trump stance of your fellow protesters, it is not coming from me but from these protesters themselves! You know the ones we see on TV or in person over the weekend... proudly waving those flags that really have nothing to do in Canada (what a lack of respect for Canada really to wave these flags...).
Oh please, don't tell me that you haven't seen those "F*ck Trudeau" flags and those "Trump 2020" or "Don't Tread On Me" flags.
These guys are canadian "patriots" apparently but do support a foreign leader whose motto is "America First"? Again common sense seems to be lacking here ...
I love freedom, don't worry. But I love the real Freedom, not the actual farce happening in Canada right now thanks to a minority of ignorant Fox News watching, Trump worshipping not so educated individuals.
It is actually sad that you are not even aware of this. You seem definitely more educated that most of these guys.
No need to re borrow it. If you send me your email, I’ll send you the transcript of that exact chapter where I specifically state that I did not rely on it in my plan and discouraged my readers to as well as governments can change. I literally have it right in front of me now.
I didn’t openly discuss my political views on the subject in the actual book as the book was not meant to be political In any way.
On your point of freedom and the fact that I’m an educated person can I ask you a question?
Have you read my blog article where I elaborate on my well informed and educated decision that the covid vaccine was not right for me medically? If so and you understand that I have valid reservations (so donmany people), then can you reflect on the freedoms I have lost. I can no longer work in almost any setting. I can’t travel. I can’t enter almost all public places. And I can’t put my kids in any sporting activities. All because of questionably unconstitutional rules imposed by my government. Consider this when someone like me discusses freedom. So yeah I support these truckers and their very basic demands that we just scrap the unnecessary vaccine mandates at this point as many countries are doing.
Like I said, the people supporting this movement are not fringe and I don’t believe they are in the minority anymore. I don’t think the request for basic freedom will be the wrong side of history here.
I’ve said many times I wasn’t a fan of Trump, but Trump America doesn’t sound nearly as bad the current version of a Trudeau Canada.
50,000 trucks in Ottawa really? yeah right, this is what was heard on Fox News (Theo Fleury). Turns out to be 500 trucks ... but who cares about facts these days EH?
Hi again Common Sense. If you can see the timestamp on this article, it was written before the convoy arrived in Canada. Sorry If my facts might have been slightly off. I don't think your description of 500 trucks is fair either.
I think everyone can agree that there were far more trucks and people participating in this movement across Canada than anyone expected.
The context of this post to summarize that regardless of size, the movement was unfairly portrayed.
Great point though. Let me know if you have any other thoughts or comments on my writings.

We discuss this extensively in last weeks episode of the Unacceptable Views Podcast. https://anchor.fm/rejean-venne

Again thanks for the engagement on these posts. And thanks for reading my book.
If anyone reading this is interested, my book, 5 Years to Freedom documents my journey to early retirement and I have a whole chapter dedicated to the generous CCB program: https://www.amazon.ca/Years-Freedom-Canadian-Guide-Retirement/dp/B08SYV3D1M
