Right after he says "faught against the Russians", he pauses (presumably because he realizes that anyone fighting the Russians in WW2 shouldn't be glorified). His pause should have allowed the MPs to think about that fact for a moment before their praises.
This admission ought to generate painful cognitive dissonance with, and then forceful opposition to, the all-party-all-in support for waging war in Europe to the bitter end.
But maybe memories are just so deficient that Trudy and buddies will walk away unscathed. They will find scapegoats to wag their point fingers at.
