Liberal MPs Don’t Even Know the Rationale for ArriveCan

I pressed my MP for an answer and got none.

My own MP, who has voted multiple times to suspend people’s rights and voted to maintain the ridiculous ArriveCan app does not even know the justification or rationale for these policies. 

For the last couple months I have been trying to get answers from my local MP, Marc Serre. 

Most people know that the mandates that prevented many from flying were lifted. But the Liberal government refused to remove the ArriveCan app and still imposes very strict quarantine (or house arrest) rules for anyone who refuses to disclose their vaccine status or anyone who simply doesn’t have the correct amount of doses. 

Many travellers are still required to quarantine for 14 days anytime they enter Canada. Even if they provide a negative test before arriving and even if they submit 2 negative tests once inside Canada. 

I pressed Mr. Serre for an explanation for this policy. I shared with him the real-world data that showed no difference in spread between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. I specifically inquired as to what “science” would allow Justin Trudeau himself to avoid quarantine even though he actually brought COVID back but still require unvaccinated travellers to be subject to these punitive and arbitrary rules. 

I finally received a phone call appointment with Mr. Serre last week.  

A summary of our 15 minutes conversations (see email exchange attached for more details):

✅ I notified him that there were no documents anywhere on any government website including travel.gc.ca that outlined the rationale or justification for this policy. 

✅ He acknowledged that he did not have any justification or rationale to give me. 

✅ He acknowledged that he does not believe unvaccinated people are more dangerous to the general public than vaccinated people. 

✅ After he said his best defence for the policy was to convince people to take the vaccine, I asked if that could be a justified reason to limit people’s rights. We have never allowed governments to impose quarantine rules on people simply based on their good or bad health choices. He appeared to concur and said he would seek to find me a better answer. 

✅ His latest emails states that they will be looking into getting me this justification or rationale for other departments. 

I encourage you all to reach out by email or phone to your MPs. They have the right to vote and pass laws in a democratic government. But they owe us answers. They owe us justification and rationales for imposing unprecedented rules.
